Let’s get after it this July and do our part to reduce single-use plastic waste by making a few changes in our day-to-day. This month, also known as Plastic Free July, we’d like to share some simple tips that can help make a difference and have a lasting impact. We aren’t going to change the world in an instant but if it helps to open minds to what is possible, we’re onto a winner. And remember, every little change goes a long way.
Grab a KeepCup
Enjoy your caffeine in coffee form on the go? Choose to refuse a plastic to-go cup at your local café and bring along your own reusable KeepCup. Along with reducing plastic waste, this strategy brings guaranteed street cred. You can pick up a G+C KeepCup at one of our stores.
This really is the last straw
Skip the plastic straw! There are great bamboo and metal options available these days if you need to use one. Also, we’re big fans of just taking a healthy swig too, there’s no judging here.
Soap bars for the win
There is something deeply satisfying about using a traditional soap bar. We can often get carried away with plastic containers for soaps, gels, and shampoos that end up in the bin (and you can never get the last bit out of them either!). As we wash our hands now more than ever before, give the humble soap bar a chance.
Zero waste shaving
Need a shave? Try switching to reusable razor blades or even look towards a safety razor that can be used again and again if you haven’t already. Not only will you continue to look sharp but your wallet will thank you in the long run.
That’s a wrap
Meal planning. Something that we can certainly get behind. However, the use of a one-off sheet of cling film to cover that food is something that we need to work on. Some clever organisations have created colourful food wraps from beeswax to keep those lunch leftovers fresh. Use ‘em, wash ‘em and use them again!
This is just the tip of the iceberg. To learn more about how you can reduce your single-use plastic consumption this July and beyond, you can check out the official Plastic Free July website.
What are we doing at G+C?
We know our journey toward sustainability is a long one but we’re serious about our commitment. We’re proud of the steps that we’ve taken towards protecting the planet as best as we can and our determination to continue these efforts is central to our future. See below for a few of the sustainability initiatives at Gym+Coffee:
Recently ordered some G+C clothes and have leftover clothing bags? Fear no more as we have some nifty ideas on how to re-use them here or else you can scan the QR code on the packaging for ideas.
Stainless steel water bottles
Need to stay hydrated on the move? Of course, you do! Check out our reusable stainless steel water bottles that come in a variety of fun colours to match your outfit.
Sustainable swimwear
Did you know we recently launched our Maverick Swim Shorts collection that contains 8 recycled plastic bottles per pair? This new range comes in Maroon, Turquoise and Navy colourways to add slickness to your sandy ventures. It doesn’t stop there. We have a host of products across our full sustainability collection that continues to grow season after season.
Recycled store bags
We’ve partnered with some amazing teams that place sustainability at the forefront of their minds. Waste2Wear helped to develop bags for our retail stores made from various recycled appliances (yes, including actual fridges!). Read more about our award-winning ‘I Used to Be a Fridge bags’ here.
Compostable packaging
We are so proud to announce we have introduced 100% compostable packaging for all our deliveries. Starting now, our distribution hubs will begin transitioning to delivery bags that you can pop straight in with your compostable waste. Stay tuned for loads more info here!
One Tree Planted
We have partnered with One Tree Planted (OTP), an environmental charity on a mission to make it simple for anyone to plant a tree. As we know, trees clean the air that we breathe and help absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere. To learn more about our partnership with OTP, you can see more here, and feel free to add a tree to any future order with us!
